To study plastic welding, we must first understand the characteristics and uses of various materials. Only by understanding these contents can we find the most accurate entry point in ultrasonic welding.
Abs: light weight, toughness, rigidity and corrosion resistance. It has a wide range of uses. Because ABS material has good thermal conductivity, it is very suitable for ultrasonic welding.
Acrylic: everyone is familiar with acrylic. Lights, dashboard and other places are very common. It has high hardness, impact resistance and good coloring. When used in ultrasonic welding, it is important to pay attention to transparency.
PS: this material has small specific gravity, strong corrosivity to water and chemicals, stable structure and good insulation. It is especially suitable for injection molding and extrusion molding. It has a wide range of applications, usually used in toys, decorations, toilet equipment, tableware, lens manufacturing, floating wheels and so on. Because of its high elastic coefficient, it is suitable for ultrasonic welding.
PE: small specific gravity, flexible bending at low temperature and room temperature, waterproof and radiation proof. It can be made into various colors and low-cost products. It is commonly used in tableware, packaging film, soft water pipe, milk bottle, soft rope, etc. The higher the density, the more suitable for ultrasonic welding.
PC: heat resistant, transparent and good insulation. High tensile strength and serrated strength, usually used in lenses, heat pipes, etc. Due to the high melting point and long time required, and the material is easy to absorb leakage, it needs to be dried before welding.
Nylon: it is also a familiar plastic material. Nylon material is tough, wear-resistant, acid resistant and has a very low coefficient of friction. It is usually used for bearings, gears, pipes, kitchenware, brushes, etc. When ultrasonic welding is used, due to the high melting point and long time, the drying process before welding will be easier to weld.
These are very common plastic materials in life. Through continuous practice, we made the welding analysis diagram at the beginning of this paper. By analyzing the diagram, we can find a general rule, that is, the same material is welded by ultrasonic. Good. Why? In fact, because there is almost no difference in the melting point of the same material, during ultrasonic welding, the molecular structures of the two bonding parts are released at the same time and formed at the same time when cooled. The welding effect is naturally the best. The welding effect between different materials can also be estimated by the melting point and characteristics (shape, color, hardness) of the material. The closer the basic properties are, the better the welding effect is.
The above analysis only takes some commonly used plastics as examples, and analyzes PBT and other crystal materials. An article is far from complete. In the future, the author will bring more information about ultrasonic welding and provide the most relevant suggestions for you to buy ultrasonic welding equipment.
